eNg Designs & Construction: Elevating Your Space

Erika Hemphill founded eNg Designs & Construction in 2017, driven by a desire for more freedom and time with her growing family. At the time, she was commuting to Covington while adjusting to life with her second child, and she knew something had to change. Erika had always been passionate about home design—she and her husband, Garland, would visit the Parade of Homes in New Orleans, where she would eagerly point out details she loved or ways she would improve a space. One night, she posed a bold question: “What if we build houses?” To her surprise, Garland was all in, encouraging her to take the risk.

With financial stability from Garland’s career in waste management, Erika initially planned to build just one or two houses per year as a passion project and source of extra income. But the dream quickly grew—within a short time, they were building up to ten houses annually. Now, eight years later, eNg Designs has become a powerhouse in the construction world.

The past year presented new challenges as rising interest rates affected the industry, prompting Erika and her team to pivot. While eNg had always offered remodeling services, they leaned in heavily, focusing on high-end renovations alongside their custom home and commercial work. Licensed in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, eNg has remained a leader in the field—despite economic challenges, they secured more single-family home permits than any other contractor in the area, a major win for the company.

eNg specializes exclusively in custom homes, meaning they don’t do presales or spec builds. Clients must own their property before reaching out, ensuring a fully tailored experience. Their expertise extends beyond new builds—they also renovate historic structures, seamlessly blending preservation with modern elegance. One standout project was the renovation of the 100-year-old building that now houses Precious Prints. They restored the historic brick with new mortar, maintaining its original charm while introducing contemporary sophistication.

More than just a construction company, eNg is a one-stop shop. They handle everything from drafting plans to new construction, remodeling, and interior design for both commercial and residential spaces. Erika is a firm believer in elevating downtown areas by revitalizing empty buildings and making better use of available spaces.

Beyond eNg Designs, Erika is also the founder of Boss Babe Consulting, where she helps business owners scale their companies with leadership, passion, and strong company culture. She believes that success comes from truly understanding your team and ensuring everyone is aligned with the company’s vision.

The name eNg Designs is a reflection of both Erika and Garland—“eNg” represents their partnership in whatever form it takes. While Garland didn’t originally work for the company, he has always been a pillar of support in Erika’s life. Over time, their shared dreams led him to join eNg full-time. Today, Erika serves as CEO, while Garland is the Superintendent, working side by side to build not just houses, but a legacy.

A strong believer in the power of self-affirmation, Erika starts each day by reminding herself of who she is and what she is capable of. “If I don’t tell myself what I am, I’m telling myself that I’m nothing,” she says. This mindset has been a driving force in her success, and she hopes to impart that same confidence and self-belief to everyone she meets.
