Railroad Park

Railroad Park, a project of the Downtown Development District, has been a vision since 1998 and finally came to fruition in 2022. Right in the center of downtown, this plaza is the home of our weekly Farmers Market, live music performances, and a variety of community events. For history enthusiasts, Railroad Park is home to our history panels, a collaboration between the DDD, the Center for Southeast Louisiana Studies at Southeastern Louisiana University, the Tangipahoa African American Heritage Museum and Veteran Archives, the City of Hammond, and Pistorius Associates. They chronicle the park’s past, highlighting the significance of trains and strawberries in our community. Additionally, the park features dedication bricks and benches that capture tributes and local memories, weaving the tapestry of Hammond’s history into every corner of this space.
