Jorge Maryland’s path to becoming a barber wasn’t a straight line. From playing basketball as a kid to serving in the military, Jorge explored different career paths while always keeping one hobby close—cutting hair. Since sixth grade, he had been cutting his friends’ hair, never realizing it would one day become his full-time profession.

In 2017, Jorge made the leap, turning his longtime hobby into a career. Since then, he has remained dedicated to serving Hammond with precision and passion. His hard work culminated in December 2024, when he became his own boss and opened Headquarterz. Adjusting to ownership has been a new challenge, but Jorge credits his team for making the transition smooth. When asked to be photographed for this blog, the first thing he requested was to have his employees in the picture with him—a testament to his leadership and humility.

Jorge is a master of all styles—beards, trims, and cuts—but his personal favorite is the fade, believing it’s a universally flattering style. His message to the community is simple: if you have hair, he’ll cut it. No matter your race or gender, everyone is welcome at Headquarterz.
